OLED TV Taken to the next…

I’ve just spent about a week with the G4 and I can’t believe the upgrade from my LG CX oled!
First things first, setup was easy enough, the box came with both a
desktop stand and the slim wall mount, I opted for the desktop stand
for now, one thing to note about the stand is that it has two height
options, a low profile about 2-3 cm height from the desk and a 9-10 cm
to accommodate sound bars which is a nice touch. The display has a
very premium look and unlike other displays in the LG oled series the
G4 is quite thin throughout the whole display, great for wall mounting.
Next, started playing some of the OLED demos, the brightness upgrade
using MLA is incredible and had me squinting, admittedly the tv was
in vivid mode at first which I do not recommend and so switched all
the options to Filmmaker mode. The extra brightness emphasized
oled’s already amazing contrast adding more micro detail and
three dimensionality.
I Started going through some streaming content and immediately
noticed how much sharper and cleaner of artifacts the image was
compared to my CX display, I assume this is due to the changes
with the new alpha 11 processor and being able to refine lower
quality bit-rate content. The LG OS has been great, all my
streaming apps are supported and navigate smoothly.
As for the tv color accuracy and overall impression, I really
enjoy a more natural picture and its clear LG have worked
hard to make the filmmaker mode feel very accurate and natural
to life, that said if you prefer a PoP and eye sear, vivid mode
is there waiting stronger then ever..
I do wish LG didn’t remove the play and pause button from the
remote. I think clicking the middle button can be annoying at times.
On to my most favourite part of the experience so far, watching
some high bitrate UHD’s, friends an I started with ALIEN UHD which
we all loved, the scene when Rippley is running through the hallway
with just the emergency lights and the flamethrower torch lighting
the area was incredible, really showed the upgraded brightness of
the G4. Very high contrast sci-fi movies like this look best on oled.
Overall, this TV is amazing and LG have a flagship winner! Can’t
wait to try some more content and see how the display handles
gaming with the new 144hz refresh rate option.
