Samsung The Freestyle
A great starter projector

I was pretty blown away after watching the launch of The Freestyle at CES 2022. I was keen to try out the Freestyle and see how it would fit in to my content viewing.
Setting up the Freestyle was pretty easy. I used my Samsung Note 20 Ultra and set up using the SmartThings app but you can also carry on using the remote.
The system does have a problem with lag, but I found this got better the longer my Freestyle was on. This is something that can be easily fixed through an update.I chose Bixby as the voice control and loved how it integrated the Freestyle with SmartThings. Commands were completed with little difficulty. I found Bixby to work better than Alexa but you have both to choose based on your own preferences.
The brightness and contrast of the Freestyle could have used a little more room to work with. As it stands, the projector is set to full brightness. Most content was great to watch. I wish Samsung had increased the lumens to help with better picture quality. A higher lumen count would have also set the Freestyle further apart against other portable projectors.
The sound from the 360 degree 5-watt speaker is better than I expected from such a small unit. The Freestyle does have Bluetooth so you can connect a soundbar or speaker system as well as headphones/earphones.
I mirrored my phone with no problem and cast some content to my Freestyle. I used the tap feature where you just tap the side of your phone to the side of the projector. This is likely a feature on Samsung/Android phones.
The auto keystone and auto focus worked the majority of the time, with a few exceptions. I use mine by pointing it to the ceiling. I particularly liked the option to adjust the keystone tilt to make it easier on the eyes. I have beams in my loft so I can only use the middle of the ceiling rather than point the Freestyle directly above.
The Freestyle also has SmartThings integrated into the user interface. As I already have SmartThings products, it was great to have this feature. A dedicated button on the remote would have helped access this feature.
Comparing The Freestyle with other similar portable projectors, I feel that Samsung has priced the Freestyle too high. It would be more appealing if the price was in line with other competing portable projectors.
The longer I used the Freestyle, the more content I save to watch on it. It's certainly a great starter projector for me.
