Samsung The Freestyle
The Indian Tiffin Box that's…

Got my hands on the new Freestyle by Samsung just over a week ago. TBH I haven't had as much time to play with it as I would have liked, but my first impressions:
Baselining - Freesytle is expected to replace my existing portable smart projector in a very customised setup in my home office/mancave. Freestyle is BIG. Now I know a lot of people praising it for how compact it is, but it is bigger than my existing portable - almost double (old one is 5cm dia and this is just under 10cm). The height is nearly same. Freestyle also weighs more.
Some details on my limited play with Freestyle.
+ves & +ve-ishs:
- Love the picture quality. It is 1080p (unlike my old 720p) and produces some excellent quality picture in dark and low light. Uses DLP light source. For a high price item, I expected the source to be laser - there are other decent options in the market which pack the same punch but are nearly half the price (and I am not talking cheap chinese ones from aliexpress - but reputable chinese brands that attend the likes of CES Vegas).
- Focus & keystone correction. This is probably the best I have seen. Within 5 seconds of pointing the image on a screen the auto keystone correction kicks in and the screen size, shape and focus are automatically adjusted to give you the best display.
- The OS is Tizen of course. No complaints there, it is as good as you can get from Samsung.
- Availability of apps is also great. Again, something expected from Samsung as standard.
-ves & -ve-ishs:
- Freestyle does not have a standard projector/tripod mount. For me this is my biggest bugbear. What this means is that I cannot replace it like for like in my customised setup. I had to build a new mount since no after market mount is available to fit my fairly standard need of wallmounting it.
- The E26 lightbulb fitting accessory is not available. This was one of the key features that sets it apart from the competition, and Samsung has given no information about this whatsoever.
- No builtin battery. Samsung advertises this as portable and the only way to make it portable is to buy a battery pack. And when you do attach the battery pack it will become even more bigger and bulkier. When put inside the case, it resembles the Indian Tiffin Box.
Overall I think Freestyle is a quality product. If we take value for money aspect out, in a world where everything is on the cloud or on USB sticks in people's pockets, I think this is a little too lat
