Evoke Spot – Cotton
Pure Evoke Spot

Plastic in construction, tall but the footprint isn’t too big so when it’s on my small bedside table, I’ve got space for other stuff. A non-removable mesh grille to the front, with four rubber feet to the bottom, plus the bass port. To the rear is the power in and an extendable aerial. On the top is the lift up display, plus volume control and various buttons for control.
It looks good with a nice colour display, there are a lot of small buttons under the display flap that could have done with the printed icons being given a greater contrast than the white on grey to improve legibility.
Specs

Set up is straightforward, plug it in, turn it on and the setup wizard will begin. Run through the steps, connecting it to your local wifi and you’ll be good to go.
You can browse and search for popular stations or type your favourite one to find it. Typing isn’t that easy but the choice is vast so it may be quicker to type.
Select the source button and the options appear, DAB, FM, Internet radio, Podcasts, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth. Pair your phone or another device to the Evoke Spot and play any third-party audio source. Spotify is the only built-in direct service.
Now if you want to use the speaker without the screen up (e.g. at night if used as a bedside radio alarm clock) there are four preset buttons, volume and track controls outside of the screen area. With the preset buttons, you can save your favourite radio stations
You can set two separate alarms, select frequency of daily, once, weekends or weekdays only. You can select the time and select the audio source, DAB/FM/Internet and select either ‘last listened to’ or pick a station/preset. If you don’t want radio, you can have a buzzer sound instead.
If you’re not keen on using the buttons, you can download the UNDOK app to your smart device and it will allow you to control the speaker that way.
Audio performance is more than good enough for casual listening, but because of the downward firing bass port the surface the radio is placed on can affect the tone.
It’s a shame that the radio does not have a compatible battery pack as its size makes it ideal to use in the garden etc. and there is no option for wired headphones for private listening.
