Evoke Spot – Cotton
Overall good.

OK, so I have to say, overall this is a good radio and very good speaker. It works as an alarm clock, gives you a range of options to connect to the radio, internet radio and bluetooth to your phone if you've decided on your own music.
The speaker itself Is. Loud. ! If you have problems getting up in the morning, whack this up to full volume (make sure your neighbours are out or are also needing to get up at your time) and go. You will wake up. I can't even trust this to go to full volume because I'd imagine all 70 of the flats nearby would also wake up!
The options are a buzzer or the radio/music. You get the usual sleep function and though very bassey, the speaker is of good quality- not at all tinny and still sounds clear. I'd like to mix up the settings a little if it were down to me and from what I can see (the instructions are a little on the sparse side...) you can't mess with the sound settings aside from the volume.
The buzzer sets one alarm type. You don't get the option to switch alarm styles but you do always have your phone.
I'm very grateful that it doesn't operate by voice and some of my other speakers which stops me worrying it won't turn itself on of it's own accord! It works via a click button so you get one of those confirmatory 'clicks' when you decide on specific functions which I actually prefer as you know when your instruction has been accepted. There is no lag or delay on the display after you select a function, everything is pretty immediate.
It doesn't have great looks if I'm honest. I have the SPOT in cotton (white in laymans terms!) and though it doesn't look bad, it is very minimal. You can push up the screen to show or fold it down when playing anything, it works regardless. The light is VERY bright and lights up the volume switch even when the screen is folded but you can set a timer to turn the light off, otherwise it does light up at least a 2m sq corner of a room quite well! You can however, choose to keep the light on whilst playing if you prefer not to sleep in the dark.
This sort of speaker/alarm clock would go well in those who are short on space, it really serves both functions. It wont win on looks in my opinion but this really is about form over function. I've only downgraded a star because I do believe the functions could be more streamlined and intrinsic, lots of clicks involved to get what you need. But as I've said, the speaker quality itself does outweigh any not-so-greats by far.
Great sound.
