Evoke Spot – Coffee Black
Good connectivity, but…

I really like the Pure brand, and bought the first commercially available DAB (the EVOKE 1) on its initial release, as well as the Marshall Edition for my wife and the portable unit for when I was on the move. So, when I was looking for a new speaker for my office I wanted to see what Pure had available. I liked the look/design of this unit, as it doesn’t need too much desk space, and the connectivy options - DAB, Internet Radio, Bluetooth , Spotify - are all things I use. Set-up wasn’t as simple as I had expected, as the buttons you use to select and choose options are directly in front of the screen and your hand (at least mine) block it. The select button also needs two presses on a regular basis, rather than responding first time. Menus and options are straightforward, but there’s only one EQ setting - where you adjust the bass and treble as you like it. However, it just doesn’t sound as good as I was expecting it to and the sound is a little ‘muddy’. I was also expecting the screen to open/close automatically, when you switch the unit on, so having to do that manually is a little disappointing. The DAB works well, as does the link to Spotify from your phone or tablet. Overall, an OK speaker but could be a lot better.
