Bose Smart Soundbar 600
Excellent Sound Stage Held…

At present I already own a couple of other sound systems and soundbars, from mid-range to high end. So, I was quite excited to receive the BOSE 600 to see how different the experience would be.
Setting up the soundbar should have been straightforward, download the BOSE Music app and away you go. However, the bar initially was not being detected by the app and took a couple of tries to get it setup. The build quality of the Bose 600 is excellent, it is well put together with premium feeling materials and it looks sleek and blends in well wherever it is set. The remote control feels a bit cheaper and is rather small, so could be misplaced easily. The LED bar looks very nice and clean as well.
On to the sound bit of the soundbar. It is excellent considering the size, it has an exceptional sound stage. In a smaller to medium size room, the bar projects sound well using the side firing and height speakers, adding a real sense of presence into different parts of your room. The sound has been excellent for Movies, Music and Gaming. The only issue with the sound for me arises from its lack of bass. There is enough bass to satisfy most but I would not consider putting the soundbar alone in a medium-larger room without the optional add on bass module.
Onto some of the problems I have faced. The CEC on this soundbar seems to have some real issues in my experience, I can only assume it is the bar as I have tried other systems with the same TVs with no issues. After setup the TV remote can adjust the soundbar volume. Unfortunately, after the TV turns off and you turn it back on it no longer works, despite audio still coming through the soundbar, the soundbar does not respond to the TV remote. Turning CEC off and on again fixes it, but only for the duration the TV stays on. Standby mode also has some issues, with options of “20 Minutes” or “Never”. The soundbar sleeps if it does not hear any sound for e.g. 20 mins when a game might be paused, when you un-pause your game the bar doesn’t detect that the TV is sending sound again, forcing you to use the remote or the app to select the sound source again.
Overall, I would say that the Bose 600 is a good soundbar, the issues mentioned hold it back from being an excellent one, but I hope Bose can issue some updates to resolve these as they would really help the user experience. It would make a great upgrade and elevate the viewing experience for anyone using TV speakers or lower end systems.
