Samsung Soundabr Q990C
A strong contender

The product came securely packaged, and the unboxing is a straightforward affair. Instructions are minimalistic, which may be a source of concern for those unfamiliar with setting up equipment of this kind. Setup was, however, very straightforward so that even a novice should not have any real difficulty. Particularly impressive was the fact that the sub and speakers connect to the unit autmoatically once plugged into the mains. The unit itself has a minimalist design. The display is on the right rather than in the centre, which seems an odd choice from a usability perspective. There are four buttons on the top to control source, volume and mic (for the Alexa feature). More advanced controls such as for sound mix and mode are accessed using the somewhat plasticy small remote or the SmartThings app (by far the superior choice). The soundbar acts as its own SmartThings hub, which is a bonus for home automation enthusiasts. Sound quality is high but, as is only to be expected, is at its best only if the source material is produced in an appropriate surround sound format. Having a rather odd-shaped room layout means that you might not get the best from the unit; but sound quality is still excellent. The choice of two rather than three standard HDMI ports, together with one HDMI ARC port, seems rather unambitious given the high stardards of the unit in other departments. Overall, this unit is a strong contender for your attention and well worth a listen.
