Initial setup not the best…

Unfortunately, my initial setup experience was not the best, but I can see other reviewers didn't have such issues. My day job is IT so I can normally solve most setup issues, but this took quite a while.
I tried to do it via the mobile app but it got so far and then decided it couldn't see it on my network. The help at that stage was non-existent. After a few days, I found time to play with it. There was a note to use 2.4GHz network only, so I tried turning my 5 GHz WiFi off, no impact. I also run a VPN on my phone, but turning that off also had no impact.
I then had to get the laptop out and luckily the same App was available and that seemed to find the printer where the mobile still wasn't. I was then able to run through the automatic setup screens and enjoyed the way it was all put together, walking me through each stage. The end didn't go quite so well, printer and software again struggling to respond to each other, but I persevered and we got there in the end. Laptop App now has the printer showing Ready status and all ink full, mobile App has caught up and now shows printer Ready but won't display the ink status!
I'm disappointed with the mobile app's ability to let me troubleshoot. I can't seem to do anything to force it to report ink status correctly.
Three weeks later and I can print okay from various devices, scan etc but unfortunately I'm still finding the software is extremely poor. Printer offline when it isn't; differences in status showing between mobile app and laptop. HP have some work to do to get this to just run without pain.
