Samsung Galaxy S24 128GB/256GB
The best compact handset…

On paper the S24 is not a huge upgrade to its predecessor, but once you start to use it, it quickly becomes clear that the S24 brings together the best of everything available on the market and refines it into a complete, very polished handset.
As a quick sidebar - my wife has small hands - this means that large phones (6.5" and above) are totally impractical for her so to finally find all of this in something that she can operate one handed is a godsend.
The new styling is excellent - with the more angular design fitting really well in hand. Battery life is good - a full day is easy to achieve and charging at 45W is quick when needed.
The cameras have everything we need - the 3x optical zoom offering lossless telephoto, backed up by an ever useful ultrawide and a 50MP main shooter.
What really shone for us though was what you can do with the photos once you have them snapped. The new AI implementation is excellent, not quite perfect yet, but enables all kind of in-phone photo manipulation that can do in seconds what just a few years ago would have needed an experienced Photoshop operator and a decent amount of time.
My favourite feature has to be the Ai recorder - not only does it transcribe but also identifies different voices and summarises each recording. Again, not 100% perfect yet but so useful for work meetings.
I also want to give a thank you to Samsung for the AI live translation, I have a nut allergy and when we travel we normally take translated phrases and written notes with us to explain this at restaurants, but can't always fully understand the replies. This is no longer an issue - the live translation is easy to use, rapid and will be a massive help whenever we are in a country in which we do not speak the language.
Otherwise, the processor is great, I was a little concerned about it being the Exynos rather than the Snapdragon version, but I need not have worried, it is smooth and snappy for day to day use and gaming alike. Speakers are good, we love having the waterproofing and the customisation levels available within the OS are best in class.
Rather than increase hardware specs unnecessarily this time around, Samsung has focused on lowering the cost and improving what you can actually do with the handset. The result is the best compact phone on the market currently bar none. Highly recommended.
