LG StanbyME
Next gen companion device…

After owning the LG StandbyMe for over 2 weeks, I feel I'm finally in a position to write my review.
TLDR: Its magic is in its versatility. Having the ability to move this anywhere you need to in your house is something that you need to experience first hand to believe how useful this can be.
From the moment the LG StandbyMe was delivered to my doorstep I knew this was going to be special. It weighed way more than I thought it would be - for a 27" screen I was not prepared for how sturdy and heavy this weighed (17.5kgs).
Setting it up was fairly straight forward, mounting the screen onto the stand was the only slightly daunting task, but I got it snapped in my first try - kudos to the LG engineers. Powering on and going through the software setup was also fairly straightforward - especially with the touchscreen - typing was a breeze and made the keying in of email address and wifi passwords that much easier. I'd suggest to set this up via your phone when prompted.
Let's run through the specs:
27" 1080p, IPS, 60hz touchscreen panel
α7 Gen4 Processor
webOS powered Smart TV - has all the essential apps (Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, MeWatch, YouTube, Disney+.
Bluetooth 5.0, Wifi 802.11ac, NFC, Apple AirPlay 2, Apple HomeKit
HDMI 1.4 x 1, USB 2,0 x 1
Full Movement - move this easily with it's built in 5-wheels. Adjust the screen however you want - swivel, tilt and rotate from landscape to portrait!
Enjoy watching shows with it's built-in battery for 3-4 hours or have it plugged into AC power for longer sessions.
Yes it's a shame it's not a 4k panel and pity that there's no easy way to place the provided remote control magnetically or otherwise on the TV and finally it would have been nice had there been a mode to shut down the device instead of putting it into a standby mode - which slowly eats away at the battery.
But don't let those minor niggles distract you from the actual joy you experience when using the device. It belongs in your home, it's a next gen companion device for the modern household.
It's your WFH 2nd screen, that doubles as a bedroom tv, that's there to back you up in your kitchen as a cooking companion, a nimble gaming setup that works in the bedroom, your man-cave or even right in the living room next to your sofa. Sometimes the wife wants to Netflix and chill while you want to game - this works great! Not to mention, it's a lifesaver with the kids - the touchscreen just makes using it such an immersive device for the little ones.
