QLED Q9F TV
Changes the way I watch…

You can always tell when there is a television in the room. You learn to ignore them when they're off, but when they're on you just can't focus on anything else. That’s why it doesn't really feel right calling the Q9F a television. It's too thin to be a TV. When it's off it's just another frame on the wall. When it's on it looks like a canvas. From close up, it looks like a moving image silkscreened onto fine fabric.
I've paused shows to read newspapers that are meant to be props. It’s less like watching a show and more like pausing an alternate reality. The intricate textures on period costumes are a perpetual distraction, and have to fight to watch the characters' faces. That's not how I engage films, it’s more like how I engage people. They're life size in what could be a mirror on the wall. It feels like a hybrid of art and reality.
The first hour was filled with "Woah" "Wow" "Holy...." and other quiet exclamations of shock and awe from everyone in the room, and that's a pretty jaded bunch. Now that the picture settings are tweaked, shows are completely changed. Microexpressions, quick shifts of light on a cheek, previously unseen hints of a tear, all reveal more emotional layers and complex character dynamics. It's like seeing human actors after years of watching felt puppets. I’ve got a lot of shows to watch again, to experience them for the first time.
