The LG 86" UHDTV is a "Boss"!

OMG! That is what most people say when they first see this unit. Now most people would say "bigger is better". In this case, that is an absolutely accurate statement! The great news is that the size is only part of the story. This TV is easily the most advanced I have ever seen, and owned.
The "Boss" has a labyrinth of customizable features! Of the default features available, Dolby Atmos and the forms of contrast (iDolby Vision and HDR-10) are the advertised standouts, and rightly so. When you choose the Settings gear on the remote, go to "All Settings" and you can customize each of them. Other noteworthy features include the built-in Google Assistant, the WebOS menu, the included voice remote, LG Channels (IPTV Channels that integrate to the channel guide), and UHD versions of the YouTube app and your other favorite web applications. To put it through its paces I chose DVD, Blu-ray and 4K movies to evaluate the images and the available settings to improve each experience. As expected, DVD images were soft and almost had an impressionism art style about them. With Blu-ray movies, there was a noticeable improvement of brightness and details. The up conversion was crisp, and produced an effective 4K image. Since many 4K Blu-rays use a 2K source, there wasn't much improvement in imagery on certain 4K movies from their traditional Blu-ray. Overall, they did produce better visuals of detailed clarity and contrast as expected. Also, console gaming was responsive! Now on to the good stuff!
Dolby Atmos on this unit is GLORIOUS! The audio was the best surprise of this unit! With this TV, you do not need a separate speaker system to enjoy the movie's audio. When you enable Dolby Atmos and AI Sound, you have an expansive soundtrack from every movie played. Movies with Dolby Atmos encoded, gave the best experience overall!
As an owner of the wonderful LG 55LW560 Cinema 3D TV (and unfortunately no...3D is not available for this set), I was thrilled to be offered the chance to get this unit at a reduced cost to provide my honest review. I am so grateful I took them up on the offer! Though my review suggests that everything is "roses" with this TV, as such there are a few thorns from trying to get my Echo to work, the learning curve needed to navigate the labrynth of settings and the magic remote, and the set up of the Smart Home functionality was not very intuitive. Aside from these manageable challenges, the aroma of this "rose" is undeniably sweet!
