A tool that's needed for…

The LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD reader is a handy tool if you have a newer laptop or mini desktop computer. The drive is very thin and uses only a USB mini-B plug to a standard USB port on your computer. A separate power cord is not required. It is very light. It is designed to work for both Windows 10 and Mac OS. For this review, I will only be talking about Windows. The read-write speeds are pretty good for the compact device. I installed the included software but encountered an error while installing it (Failed to load DLL). It seemed to install ok since I was able to burn a backup of my local PDF files folder. My backup was done using the included Cyberlink software. It took only 6 minutes for my backup of 1.6GB. The drive can be a little noisy when spinning up, about what you would hear in a built-in laptop DVD burner. I had some old burned DVD backups of files that I had saved from years ago and they were all able to play on this DVD drive. I had both DVD-R, DVD+R and DL Discs. No problems opening any files. I was even able to now install some old PC games I had on discs that I could not use on this computer. I also like to backup on disc to archive stuff and put away. I have had USB thumb drives fail after being put away for some time. I think anyone with a newer computer will need to use this at one point since there is still some old software lying around on discs. Disclaimer, I have received this product at a reduced price for my honest review.
