Initial impressions on this was that it was big. I use a 27” 1440p and a 34” Ultrawide and this takes up the same horizontal footprint as the 34” Ultrawide. Being quite old, physically, our TV’s growing up were this size and now it seems normal to have a monitor this size.
Physically: The monitor stand is very nice and made of solid metal (aluminum? steel) construction. It feels solid and the base is super slim allowing you to clear desk space quickly. Two gripes I have with the stand however are that it does not tilt down and the height is not adjustable. It is VESA compatible and simply comes on and off with a click of a button. The bezels are as slim as I’ve seen and the overall design is nice and clean.
Screen: The screen is great. Simply put it’s 4k resolution. It does not look like a 32” 4k TV panel and you can tell this was made for a computer. There is no backlight bleed on the edges, the resolution is sharp. The panel does support HDR10 which is nice for when watching videos and movies on the included OS (more on that next). With a 8ms response time there’s not much, if any, motion blur when scrolling web pages. 4k resolution is a huge upgrade and I’m glad to see it becoming more mainstream.
OS: There isn’t many, if any, other monitors that have a smart OS built into them. The monitor comes with a remote that resembles most Samsung TV remotes which makes changing settings and flipping inputs amazing. With the OS you can get pretty much any smart app that you can on your TV. While I wouldn’t use this for movie night, it is perfect for me to switch over to Netflix and watch something on while eating lunch. It also supports Microsoft Office 365 without any computer input. If you have a USB keyboard and mouse, just plug it in and you can start working on your documents or excel sheets. With the added Airplay, Google cast, and Samsung Dex support, it literally can be an all in one computer if you really needed it to be.
Connections: USB-C is supported, but you might need to update the monitor software and/or your laptops graphics drivers for it to get it supported. The USB-C does charge the laptop at 65w as well so anything there or under should be fine to be powered by the monitor itself. The monitor does have WiFi as well.
Overall this monitor is great do it all monitor. Will definitely looks forward to see how, and hope, Samsung develops this product line as it is a very versatile package.
