TV Time!
10/22/2021 13:24
Ever go to the store and see the amazing picture on TVs there and wonder why you feel like once you buy a new TV it never looks as good in the store? I have, but I also know it's generally because of 2 reasons: 1. Cable TV, which most people watched until recently, just does not have the same quality as the typical Blu-ray loop in the stores. And 2. It has store mode settings.
Well that issue is certainly not the case with this TV. This TV looks absolutely stunning out of the box. The initial setup wizard allows for AI picture and sound settings and other customizations. I had always been a fan of purchasing Mid-Tier TVs and this is one of my first high end sets and I certainly see the difference. After setting it up the first thing I went to was the built in YouTube app to check for some HDR content and watched an extended movie trailer that was absolutely stunning. I felt like I was on the grassy hill and could even see individual hairs within the actor's facial stubble.
The remote is interesting with a built in air mouse. I think this is one area that could use some improvement as far as being able to enable/disable the mouse with one button, it often "activates" unintendedly. My young kids didn't even wait for any instructions on how to use the TV and remote, I found them watching their streaming services the next morning without even asking, so it is certainly user friendly! The built in Alexa and Google on the remote hasn't been used to much, I should probably explore it more.
I also paired this up with my 1 year old LG 5.1.2 soundbar. Because I had used it with a different brand previously it took a bit of extra time to reset it up to work natively within the LG universe, it works with the TV remote and automatically switching to Dolby Atmos when it receives that content.
Onto the important details:
1. Picture Quality - 8.5/10. The picture looks great and is VERY bright (something you get get from OLEDs). I do notice some blooming from the dimming zones, but nothing like I experienced on an older set.
2. Sound Quality (built in) - 7/10. I don't use the built in speakers, but tested them out before setting up the sound bar. I was pretty impressed, the virtual surround sound was one of the best I heard. The sound isn't "tin" sounding like many TV speakers.
4.5 stars overall. Improve the remote and improve the blooming and this is a 5 star TV.
Disclaimer: I purchased this TV at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion.
