The LG Gram checks every box for me. I am a power user when it comes to computing, and I do both video editing and heavy Microsoft .Net programming, which puts different demands on the computer. The LG Gram that I am reviewing has the latest 12th generation i7 Intel processor, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB of SSD storage, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX2050 GPU in addition to the Intel Iris Xe Graphics. It has the latest standards for networking (Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160Mhz and Bluetooth), Facial Recognition (Windows Hello) LGE FHD & IR-FHD Camera, DTS Audio, and plenty of useful connections full-size HDMI, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Audio Jack, two USB-A 3.1 ports, and an SD Card Reader. More importantly, what does this all mean for the computing experience?
My first test was video processing, which is very computationally intense, especially for the GPU. I created several 4k videos with titles, transitions, and effects to exercise this computer. The rendering was in real-time if not a bit faster. The Nvidia was at nearly 100% rendering the output, while the Intel Iris was used to read in the raw footage. The CPU, memory, disk, and network had a nominal impact so that I could easily perform other tasks with ease.
My second test was Microsoft .Net programming. The IDE can use substantial memory and CPU depending upon the size of, and the number of files in the solution/project. I picked a very large solution and made several changes to make the IDE and the other plug-ins scan through the code in the background. This did load up the 32 GB of RAM and use the CPU extensively, however, it did not impact my ability to work uninterrupted. I am extremely happy with the experience because this is where I spend most of my workday. Also, I do get interrupted by other developers needing assistance during the day, and I have been able to easily open their projects as well and go into an online meeting with them and collaborate efficiently. This speaks to the networking and GPU capabilities of this computer.
I give it high praises. Compared to other high-end computers the LG Gram is a great value. I would highly recommend it. I should also say that it is extremely lightweight, thin, solidly constructed, and comfortable to use. The keys have a very nice touch and are backlit so that the keyboard is easy to read. It has a full number pad and discrete arrow keys.
