The Freestyle Projector
Nice Improvement in Portability…

The Samsung Freestyle projector is very portable and compact, something we were really looking for given how bulky and clunky our last projector unit was. So far, we’ve used it inside and outside, and you can use it on so many surfaces and at any angle really. For example, we’ve used it on the wall in our family room, and on a makeshift screen outside near our deck. It is very light (under two pounds), and came with everything we needed to get it up and running quickly, including a remote, all the cables you need, and it has a stand that lets you change the angle pretty easily.
Another feature we like is that it can focus and keystone the projected image automatically. This is something we constantly had to do manually with our old projector, and it does a fairly good job of focusing and keystoning.
Setup was straightforward, and includes a built-in app that you can access via the remote control. We added other apps too that were not built in, and they worked great too. It also works nicely using Alexa, which is the voice assistant we use mostly in our home. One feature we did not expect, but that we’ve used often already, is something called “ambient mode.” It lets you show scenes (like a relaxing campfire or a snowfall), so you can use it for background or mood, in addition to actively watching TV or movies.
The sound is acceptable, but we mostly connect it with HDMI to our sound system when possible. If I had to offer one suggestion, it would be to make the projector heavier and more solid-feeling. It doesn’t feel as solid as I would like, but I guess making it light does add to the portability and compactness.
All in all, we’re very happy with this projector, especially how portable and functional it is compared to the “old technology” projector it has replaced.
