HW-Q990C
A powerhouse of a Soundbar

This is my review of the Samsung HW – Q990C Soundbar. I was very excited to receive it, have finally found the time to give it a solid review. In the box is the Soundbar, two rear speakers, subwoofer, power plugs for all four, an HDMI cable, and a remote. Set up was pretty much wirelessly plug-and-play. I plugged in all of the units, then turned on the Soundbar, and within seconds the subwoofer in the rear speakers all had their blue lights solid which means everything was connected. If you're not electronically inclined, this makes everything so simple.
Here are some of the major specifications of the Q990C. It's rated at 656W of total power. It is an 11.1.4 channel wireless Dolby Atmos Soundbar which includes rear speakers. Overall, there are 11 front facing speakers, a subwoofer, and for up firing channels, 22 speakers in total. The rear speakers alone have front, side, and up firing speakers which use the walls and ceilings to envelope the room with sound. It has Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Digital Plus Dolby MAT. It has 4K pass-through to pass HDCP 2.2 video content. In short, it's full of impressive specs.
To preface, I have Samsung's 2021 Q950A Soundbar which I have been thoroughly satisfied with. This will be a really good comparison with the Q990C. I needed a Soundbar in another room, and this was perfect timing to place the Q950A in that room and upgrade to the Q990C. Most of my testing was watching various movies, either from cable or from online services like Netflix. I also seamlessly connected my phone via Bluetooth and streamed some music.
I will get right to the point. This Soundbar is amazing. When watching a movie, the Soundbar bar shined. There are several factors that had me arrive at this conclusion. First of all, there are the voices. I could hear the dialogue crystal clear, and sounds very natural. When thinking of an 11.1.4 Atmos Soundbar, most important is the overall sound. The subwoofer puts out impressive bass. I found it to be extremely tight (slight upgrade to Q950A), without unnecessarily rumbling. It has a punch to it. Regarding the surround sound, despite the not so stellar room I was testing the Soundbar in, it's immersive. I tested this with several action movies to get a feel for chase scenes, bullets or airplanes passing through the room, and several movies that required good surround.
This Soundbar is a beast, and rivals full setups. I highly recommend the HW-Q990C.
