As a long-time owner of LG 65” OLEDs, including the B9, C1, and now the G3 model, I've had the chance to experience LG's OLED offerings across all tiers. This year, the G3 has brought about a more pronounced distinction compared to previous B/C and G series comparisons.
In previous years, the disparity between the C and G series was relatively minimal, primarily centered around the G series' design for gallery-style wall mounting. However, the G3 series OLEDs in 2023 exhibit a genuinely elevated premium quality when pitted against the C3 model. It's not merely about the gallery aesthetics; the G3 demands serious consideration.
The G3 stands out with its enhanced brightness attributed to the inclusion of Micro Lens Array (absent in the 83” G3 Model). This unique feature makes the G3 the sole OLED in the lineup with significantly improved brightness. Additionally, the anti-reflective coating on the screen is another noteworthy aspect. For those, like me, who have the TV placed in a bright room with a window opposite, these two features prove indispensable.
The heightened brightness and anti-reflective coating have immensely enhanced my daytime viewing experience. This transition from the C1 to the G3 was a remarkable improvement, and these two attributes should be at the forefront of any decision-making process.
Mounting the G3 on the wall using the included gallery-style mount is a visually stunning option. It seamlessly blends into the wall, resembling a piece of artwork. The ultra-thin bezels further elevate the visual impact. Unlike previous G series OLEDs with plastic trim, this year's model boasts an all-metal trim, exuding a premium aura. Regrettably, the lack of an included stand at this price point is a downside
Installing the G3 with the provided mount presents a unique challenge due to the zero-gap design. Achieving a wire-free appearance requires a recessed box in the wall to conceal cables and the power cord. The G3 cannot lay flat against the wall if a thin faceplate is used. While a raceway-type strip/track is an easier solution as per LG's manual, opting for a cleaner installation involving extra effort is ultimately rewarding.
Notably, the G3's menus and apps exhibit remarkable speed and responsiveness. This improvement is significant, considering my experience with the B9 and C1 models, where the C1 was notably sluggish. The G3's snappy performance is a welcome upgrade. This year marks a resounding recommendation for the LG G series.
