Excellent Entry Level Sound…

The Samsung HW-C400 soundbar, released in 2023, is a compact and relatively budget-friendly 2.0 channel soundbar ideal for enhancing the audio experience of smaller TVs, particularly when enjoying stereo content like music or TV shows. It has a simple rectangular design, typical of Samsung soundbars, with a black finish and a lightweight build of 907 grams. The front sports a metal grille while the top is finished in brushed metal, although the sides are made of plastic. On the top of the device, there are basic controls for selecting inputs, adjusting volume, and powering the soundbar on and off. It also comes with a remote control for easy operation. The HW-C400 soundbar measures 64cm in width, which complements smaller TVs well, and at a height of 6.6 cm, it is unlikely to obstruct the screen even when placed in front of the TV. Additionally, wall-mounting brackets are included if you prefer to mount it on the wall. Feature-wise, the HW-C400 is an entry-level model with a simple two-channel design employing four forward-firing drivers consisting of wide-dispersion woofers and tweeters. It supports two-channel Dolby Digital and DTS but lacks a dedicated center channel for dialogue, which may not significantly impact performance thanks to its two sound modes: Standard and Surround. While the Standard mode is ideal for listening to music and some TV programs, the Surround mode aims to provide a more immersive experience when watching movies, TV series, and games. Despite its budget-friendly nature, the HW-C400 soundbar does have Bluetooth connectivity allowing for music streaming directly from smartphones or tablets. If paired with a compatible Samsung TV, audio can also be streamed from the TV to the soundbar wirelessly, which helps in reducing cable clutter. In terms of sound quality, the HW-C400 soundbar has a power output of 40W which might not be loud enough for some users, especially at maximum volume. However, it manages to maintain sound clarity without distortion even at full volume. The soundbar performs well with two-channel content, providing a decent level of separation in Stereo mode, a solid midrange, and well-defined treble. However, it falls short in the lower frequency range, and despite having a built-in subwoofer, the bass output may not meet the expectations of bass enthusiasts. Although it's a basic soundbar with limited features, the HW-C400's price point and the sound quality it offers for stereo content make it a worthy consideration for individuals on a budget or those with smaller living spaces.
