Just right mix of beaty…

I have an existing surround sound system connected to my Sony TV and I was hoping to get something for everyday listening. This Samsung HW-700D model caught my attention, specifically the ultra slim design of the sound bar. I wanted something that would be discreet/blend in and not stand out.
When I unpacked the sound bar, I was shocked at the profile of the sound bar. It is ultra-slim and light and perfect for what I wanted. I then wondered how it would sound.
Packaging was minimal but adequate and getting it ready for setup was quick. The setup instructions were adequate but could have been better. Setting it up and getting it connected to the TV was a breeze. This was by far the fastest and simplest setup I have done. The power cord is the only wire in place. The sound bar is connected via Bluetooth to the Sony TV. The subwoofer connection is also wireless other than the power cord and getting it connected to the soundbar was nothing....I did not do anything, it just connected after it was powered on!
The soundbar has four 'touch' buttons at the top center and there is no tactile feedback for these. There are LEDs on the front that are supposed to help but they are rather discreet and confusing. The Options button speaks out the active connection which is helpful. In my setup, the soundbar turns on and off with the TV and connects automatically to the subwoofer. When the soundbar is turned off, the subwoofer seems to go into a standby mode.
As for the actual performance, the sound generated by the soundbar is clear and loud. The most I have set the sound level to is 28 and that was more than adequate. It can go upto 100 and I cannot imagine how loud that would be. Dialog that I quite did not always catch on the TV speakers are now clear and crisp on the soundbar. There is a decent amount of bass but no deep thumps that would move you. The bass appeared to be not well rounded and ended flat at the tail. I may have to play with the customization settings and/or try a different location for the sub and see if it gets better. Right now, I have it setup for Adaptive sound which can be selected on the Samsung SmartThings mobile app on my Android phone. I wish these sound settings and configuration could be done via the TV interface. I have yet to open the remote from its packaging....have not felt a need for it yet. This speaks to how easy Samsung made it to setup and use.
For my needs, this is perfect - not too big, not too obtrusive, just right!
